If you’re the kind of person who loves to entertain guests at home and are fond of board games, you probably have a collection of different games that you can just pull out when you have guests over. Games can range from simple ones like Scrabble to the more complicated ones like Settlers of Catan or the more modern ones like Exploding Kittens. There is no shortage of all kinds of board games available in the market for all ages and all kinds of preferences.
But if you want to take it up another level, albeit an expensive one, you can check out this set of luxury board games from two luxury brands: L’OBJET and Fortuny, which have collaborated to recreate traditional games into something more luxurious. The L’OBJET pour Fortuny collection is a nod to the artisans of Venice, with each piece featuring techniques used in the ancient world. The descriptions of the materials used aren’t that specific, though, even if those are the reasons why they actually cost a fortune compared to the regular ones you can find at toy and hobby stores.
Designers: L’OBJET and Fortuny
The Deco Tic Tac Toe is crafted from natural shells on a brass base and also comes in a special gift box. It’s priced at $850, though it’s not indicated what these shells are specifically that would make you pay such a premium for a set. Meanwhile, if you’re a fan of backgammon, a game which dates back 1,600 years, the Matis Backgammon set is hand-crafted with inlaid natural wood and suede backing. Again, what kind of expensive wood is not indicated, but it costs as much as the game’s age (yes, that’s $1,600 for the entire set). There is also the Deco Dominoes set ($550) that is crafted from mahogany wood, brass plating, and inlaid brass details.
Of course, luxury board games wouldn’t be complete without the ultimate “board game”: chess. The Haas Chess Set is made up of supposedly individually sculpted brass pieces. The board itself is inlaid with black and white stone, which is, of course, as vague a description as any. What is clear, though, is that you would have to shell out $4,200 to own this set. The pieces are also not your usual pawn, knight, rook, bishop, king, and queen but rather uniquely designed shapes and creatures, which may add to the appeal if you can afford it.
If you can’t afford any of these but would still like a luxury “game,” they have the Crocodile Box with Playing Cards. It is made up of two decks of cards that are enclosed in a porcelain box with 24K gold, wrapped in, you guessed it, crocodile skin. It’s priced at $295, which is still pretty expensive considering you can get ordinary playing cards for as low as $1. But of course, the fact that people are interested in luxury items like these means that money is really no object.
