8BitDo has been serving the demanding gaming community with meaningful gear for over a decade, and for their 12th anniversary, the Chinese accessories maker is slotting another gaming controller into their elite collection. The highly acclaimed SN30 Pro controller, popular for its SNES-like retro aesthetics, has a new beefier variant that’s built to last. This comes right after the brand revealed limited edition silver and gold models of the wired gaming controller.
The SN30 Pro, initially revealed in 2021, is compatible with Nintendo Switch and Windows, making it the perfect gamepad for gamers who appreciate the retro charm in their gadgets. This time around, 8BitDo has revealed the SN30 Pro Space Gray Limited Edition for gamers. We would have loved to see this gaming controller be compatible with smartphones, but we’re not complaining as the brand has dedicated controllers for mobile gamers. The idea is to relive the neo-retro appeal while playing old-school arcade games.

What makes this one different from the earlier versions is its body shell made out of zinc-alloy material. This attribute makes the controller feel robust in the hands for those who fancy the prospect of it. The added weight makes the controller weigh more than double at 381 grams compared to the standard one which weighs 145 grams. The weight distribution is well-balanced though, so it won’t feel awkward while gaming for long hours. For those who prefer a lightweight gamepad, the original variant is the way to go. The SN30 Pro is specifically targeted at gamers who desire an old-school gaming experience in its wired input format. If you demand a hands-free gaming experience, the wireless connectivity option is the way to go.
The controller comes with a D-pad, dual thumbsticks, a turbo button, a home button, ABXY buttons, and support for haptic vibrations. All the external hardware is done in a metal finish, which should raise any questions about its durability. Another upgrade that comes with this controller is the support for the Nintendo Switch 2 console running on 20.1.1. OS or higher. 8BitDo SN30 Pro Space Gray Limited Edition carries a premium price tag of $100 (same as the silver and gold versions), which is almost three times that of the original gamepad. Apart from the unique color, slightly better build quality in metal finish compared to the otherwise plastic shell, and support for Switch 2, the gamepad has everything that the past versions have. Only if it fits all your requirements should the controller be bought from the brand’s eShop.
