Released as the world’s largest hardshell rooftop tent, the Condor 2 XXL Air is the latest RTT from Roofnest, based in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to its impressive size, this hard-shell rooftop tent is also billed as “fastest-deploying Roofnest ever.” It takes under a minute to set up at the campground and quickly folds away when it’s time to hit the road.
Hardshell rooftop tents are generally not the most spacious, often falling short when accommodating more than two people. But the Condor 2 XXL Air envisions to change that with its roomy and comfortable sleeping area. This is made possible with the new automatic twin U-bar design, which opens up the interior – increasing the volume and the headroom – for a liveable space that can fit more than four people if needed, yet fold almost flat for transport without adding extra drag to your vehicle.

Robust on the outside, the Condor 2 XXL Air features a ruggedized LINE-X coated ABS shell and is provided with an internal aluminum frame for added support. The hardshell design and coating make the tent usable in all weather conditions. It provides protection and stability not only when closed but also when open. The tent canopy on the inside is made from poly-cotton canvas and has blackout coating, which adds to the strength and durability, alongside functionality.
The hard-shell RTT’s rainfly U-bars and an integrated 7.5-foot telescoping ladder assists in quick and effortless setup or closure. The modular side windows open the interior space for light and air, while an additional flap supported by the ladder makes more room. When fully open, the Condor 2 XXL Air measures about 102 inches long. In this position, it is 80 inches wide, which means that along with its four feet headroom, it can allow 4+ adults to sleep comfortably. For sleeping comfort, the space is filled with a 2-inch-thick self-inflating mattress, which is 8 feet long and 6.5 feet wide.
The used inflatable airmattress is part “Rest EZ Sleep System,” from Roofnest, which comes with top sheets made from 100 percent bamboo and a puffy blanket. Despite its impressive volume inside, Condor 2 XXL Air is relatively compact when folded down but it still weighs 200 pounds and takes up almost the entire roof space of your vehicle. It stands only 15 inches high while measuring 88 inches long and 60 inches wide when closed and is a good choice to mount on large wagons, SUVs and the like.
The Condor 2 XXL Air is compatible with Roofnest’s 6-channel crossbars and can carry up to 150 lbs. of payload. So, if you want, when it’s closed, you can carry a kayak, bike, or a surfboard atop. However, you will be required to unmount the gear before deploying the tent. On the inside, the Roofnest Condor 2 XXL Air retailing at $4,395 has six-pocket gear grid that attaches to the shell to make storage space, has HVAC ports, and three dimmable LED lights, which can be switched off on a full moon light so you can open the skylight and gaze at the stars right from your bed.
