Probably most of us would want to spend a romantic vacation somewhere in the sun-soaked areas of Italy, specifically, the Italian Riviera. But of course, not all of us have the opportunity to take a few weeks off and breathe in the Ligurian coast air and enjoy what the Mediterranean has to offer. So if that is still a dream for now, the next best thing, aside from watching videos online, is to build your own ideal town with LEGO pieces.
The LEGO Ideas Italian Riviera set would be the closest you will be able to get to that for now. It’s a 3,251-piece set that was submitted by Oregon-based fan designer Alex Sahli and will now become a set you can actually purchase this August. It comes with detailed shops, homes, and even local minifigures to give you a LEGOfied view of what it means to visit and stay for a bit in a local fishing village.

The set is able to capture all the charming details that have enchanted visitors over the years. You will basically put together a typical Ligurian fishing village, which includes a gelato shop, a dive shop, and a fish market. There are three colorful, angled buildings, and you can lift off the roofs and the upper stories so you can see the interiors, which are pretty detailed. Of course, a LEGO set would not be complete without minifigures. This one has 10, including a fish vendor, a gelato store owner, a pasta maker, and other colorful characters.
The set costs around $300 USD, and those early birds who purchase it will get a LEGO Mediterranean Scene gift set. Those LEGO Insiders who have some loyalty points stored can get a LEGO Insiders Riviera Notebook, which includes a leather-bound cover, sticker sheet, pen holder, and more. LEGO Insiders will get early access by August 7, while the general release is on August 10.
Beyond its immediate appeal, this set represents the power of imagination to transport us to places we love or dream of visiting. In our increasingly digital world, there’s something wonderfully tactile and meditative about building with LEGO bricks, creating something beautiful with your hands while your mind wanders to sun-drenched terraces and the sound of waves lapping against ancient harbor walls.
So while you’re planning your next real adventure to the Italian Riviera, you get to bring a piece of that magic home with this LEGO set. It proves that sometimes the best journeys begin right at your table. Hopefully, we get more vacation-themed sets from LEGO so that those of us who can’t yet afford to get to these places can jumpstart our imaginations, one colorful brick at a time.
