What Matters to Jac Mansour

Debbie Millman’s ongoing project “What Matters,” an effort to understand the interior life of artists, designers, and creative thinkers, is now in its third year. Each respondent is invited to answer ten identical questions and submit a nonprofessional photograph.

Jac Mansour is Pinnacle Advertising’s chief creative officer. For the past dozen years, Mansour has led the agency’s creative department. He’s overseen award-winning work on many accounts, including 12 Super Bowl commercials for WeatherTech. Even though he lives in Chicagoland, he will always be an avid Detroit Lions fan.

What is the thing you like doing most in the world?

Playing with my dog, Bea, a 6-year-old rescue mutt. There isn’t a squirrel, rabbit, or dog nearby that she doesn’t want to run up to and say hello.

What is the first memory you have of being creative?

7th-grade talent show doing a Ginsu knife demonstration. “It slices, dices, chops and lops off just about anything in its way. Hi-Ya!” Left with roaring laughs and a few smashed tomatoes.

What is your biggest regret?

Although I have many, none so big that they weigh on me. No “the one that got away” story here.

How have you gotten over heartbreak?

Nothing that an Oreo Blizzard from DQ can’t cure. 😉

What makes you cry?

Watching the movie Braveheart. Even though I’ve seen it over 10 times, that James Horner soundtrack gets me every time.

How long does the pride and joy of accomplishing something last for you?

I’m proud of the work we’ve produced at Pinnacle, including a dozen Super Bowl commercials. But, it’s always about doing the next great thing, and following our agency motto: Never Settle.

Do you believe in an afterlife, and if so, what does that look like to you?

Hopefully, I can plead my case to St. Peter to get past the pearly gates, where old family and friends are gathered around a table having a wonderful time.

What do you hate most about yourself?

The fact that I’m so impatient.

What do you love most about yourself?

That I get to be with my wife, the most wonderful, loving person in the world.

What is your absolute favorite meal?

Coalfire Pizza. It’s not Chicago-style pizza, but it’s the best pizza in Chicago.
