Shaun Tan is an Australian artist, writer, and filmmaker from Fremantle, Western Australia, best known for his award-winning graphic novel The Arrival and the Academy Award–winning animated short adaptation of his picture book The Lost Thing.
His multidisciplinary portfolio includes picture books such as The Red Tree and Cicada, oil paintings, sculptures like Singing Bones, and short films that blend narrative and visual art.
Tan’s signature style is dreamlike and surreal, combining whimsical imagery with poignant undertones to explore themes of alienation, displacement, and identity. He studied Fine Arts, English Literature, and History at the University of Western Australia and has exhibited internationally at events including LightBox Expo and the International Literature Festival Berlin.
