Ejiwa Ebenebe Creates Lush, Ornamented Fantasy Portraits and Vibrant Digital Paintings With African Vibe

Ejiwa “Edge” Ebenebe is a queer Nigerian-Canadian illustrator and fine artist currently based in British Columbia, Canada.

With roots in Nigeria and formative years spent across multiple continents—including Lesotho, Western Samoa, and New Zealand—Edge channels this multicultural background into vibrant, highly ornamented digital and traditional artworks. Her pieces frequently explore themes of unapologetic Black joy, community, otherness, and the lush imagery of fantasy and folklore. Edge’s work seeks to create positive, empowering representation for Black and LGBTQ+ people, often celebrating whimsy and escapism in a visually sumptuous style. Her art is widely commissioned for magazine covers, book illustrations, games, and public art, while her personal portfolio echoes with color, ornament, and emotional resilience.
