‘Unexpected Brand Experts’: 100 Days by Dyna Rivera

100 Days is an annual project at New York City’s School of Visual Arts that was founded by Michael Bierut. Each year, the students of the school’s Master’s in Branding Program spend 100 days documenting their process with a chosen creative endeavor. This year, we’re showcasing each student in the program by providing a peek into ten days of their project. You can keep an eye on everyone’s work in the SVA 100 Days projects gallery.

Dyna Rivera is a senior graphic designer living in New York who specializes in identity and experimental design. For her 100 Days project, “Unexpected Brand Experts,” Rivera played with iconic quotes to showcase the influence of brands in our culture.

In Rivera’s words:

“For 100 days, I reimagined iconic quotes from prominent figures in art, culture, and history. By replacing a key noun with the word “brand,” I uncovered timeless wisdom for modern branding.

I was inspired by how influential people—like brands—can impact our lives. The words they shared are filled with principles that seamlessly translate from person to product. Drawing a connection between the inspirational quotes that move us and how the word “brand” fits interchangeably within them reflects how brands show up in the world and shape our daily lives. By transforming these iconic quotes, I aimed to reveal just how powerful branding truly is.”
