You’ve heard the term “print is dead” for a good many years. Although print’s demise has more to do with other economic and technological issues, futurists have long enjoyed acting out the role of doomsayer—just like with “the end of the design profession.” Like “the end of history,” it’s just a lot of mumbo jumbo. These days, AI is being discussed as the latest murderer of it all.
I offer a case in point—an article on graphic design’s coup de grace that ran over a decade ago. The doom scheme is similar to those written lately about AI.
