Where Structure Meets Softness: Nila lounge series for Artisan
Two design studios, Regular Company and Neisako Studio, introduce Nila for Artisan, a lounge collection that merges fifteen years of woodworking expertise with advanced upholstery craftsmanship. The project brings together two complementary approaches. Regular Company, which has collaborated with Artisan for nearly fifteen years, contributes structural clarity and a deep understanding of the brand’s design language. Neisako Studio adds specialised expertise in upholstery construction, approaching comfort as a precisely developed system rather than a surface layer.
Beyond product development, Regular Company and Neisako Studio also lead the creative direction and strategic design for Artisan, having developed the brand’s identity, exhibition stands, and communication materials. The Nila Lounge collection evolved from the Nila chair, which served as the starting point for the series. The chair reinterprets the traditional typology of the upholstered armchair. A sturdy frame and almond-shaped armrests create an archetypal impression, while soft transitions and visual lightness give the piece a contemporary character. The hero piece of the collection is a chaise lounge defined by a pronounced orthogonal structure that carries an organic form.

For the Nila Lounge collection, the upholstery was developed as an integral part of the construction rather than an applied layer. Neisako calibrated foam densities, layering sequences, and internal support systems to achieve ergonomic comfort without increasing visual bulk. ‘The upholstered body is conceived as part of the structure,’ the designers explain. ‘It works with the frame rather than concealing it.’ The refined wooden frame and distinctly shaped armrests create a strong visual identity, while soft transitions and a sense of lightness contribute to the collection’s timeless character. The soft upholstery rests on a leather base, parts of which are woven to introduce structural reinforcement where required, creating a detail that is both technical and poetic.
Metal details with gently curved lines complete the form while adding visual emphasis and additional strength. Based in Bosnia, Artisan produces furniture exclusively from solid wood, combining CNC precision with hand-finishing. The company frequently collaborates with international designers to explore new material dialogues within traditional woodworking. With Nila, wood, leather, metal, and upholstery operate as a single system. The collection, designed by the collaborative team of Regular Company and Neisako Studio, appears restrained, yet its construction reveals a layered technical complexity.
