Ivan Pokidyshev is a contemporary Russian painter born in 1993 in Saint Petersburg, where he graduated from the Imperial Academy of Arts and became a member of the Russian Artists’ Union in 2018. Now based there, he has amassed nearly 50,000 Instagram followers through his luminous oil and acrylic works that blend classical figuration with ethereal, thermography-inspired glows.
Pokidyshev’s early pieces (2017–2021) form what he calls a “mosaic self-portrait,” delving into power, futility, heroism, and dramatic chiaroscuro contrasts. A pivotal shift came in 2022 amid global turmoil, redirecting his focus to light, warmth, life, and love—depicted as inner radiant energy spilling from figures into surrounding darkness. Recent works like “Garden” (acrylic, 2024) evoke hope through vivid reds, oranges, and yellows symbolizing vital human connection.

Inspired by infrared thermography revealing hidden heat patterns, his paintings create a “poetry of light and warmth,” with subjects glowing like vital energy sources. He has exhibited widely in Russia, including a major 2025 solo show at Erarta Museum titled “Wanderer in the Dark,” and his art is available via platforms like Artsy and KB Fine Art Gallery.
