blooming graphics and floral installations take over shinsegae department store for spring

Shinsegae Department Store presents spring Graphic Identity

Each spring, Shinsegae Department Store presents ‘Blooming Playlist,’ a seasonal campaign that redefines retail environments through integrated design and cultural programming. Developed in collaboration with Moonwalker Studio for the second consecutive year, the campaign explores the relationship between graphic identity and natural motifs.

At the center of the visual system is Shinsegae’s S-check pattern, reinterpreted through the addition of cherry blossom imagery. The structured geometry of the motif is overlaid with organic floral forms, establishing a contrast between graphic order and natural variation. This approach generates a visual language that aligns brand identity with seasonal change.

The campaign is implemented across 13 Shinsegae shopping malls throughout South Korea. Spatial applications include large-scale environmental graphics, suspended floral installations, and coordinated visual elements distributed throughout interior retail areas. These interventions extend the graphic concept into three-dimensional space, shaping circulation paths and visual perception within the malls.

A Multi-Sensory System Integrates Performance, Color, and Retail

In parallel, the program, developed by Moonwalker Studio incorporates live performances staged within the retail environments. These events introduce a temporal layer to the spatial design, activating the interiors and encouraging prolonged engagement. The inclusion of seasonal food offerings under the ‘Blooming Flavor’ concept further expands the campaign into a multi-sensory framework, linking visual identity with taste.

Color plays a central role in the campaign, with a palette derived from spring tones applied consistently across graphics and installations. The S-check pattern maintains brand continuity, while the cherry blossom elements reference seasonal cycles commonly associated with renewal. The combination of these elements establishes a cohesive system that integrates branding, spatial design, and cultural programming.

Rather than functioning as a conventional retail promotion, ‘Blooming Playlist’ operates as a comprehensive design strategy. Graphic design, interior interventions, live events, and product offerings are coordinated to produce a unified spatial and sensory experience across multiple locations.
