Caffè Borbone cultivates the supply chain in Campania

The figure is positive. And it records significant growth. The Neapolitan coffee and confectionery district grew by 9.7 percent in 2024, with the second and third quarters standing out with increases of +18.2 percent and +12.7 percent, respectively. This is certified by Intesa Sanpaolo’s Observatory on Industrial Districts. A sector that does not seem to know any crisis and that looks to the future from a perspective in which the search for quality coexists with sustainability and innovation.

Concept reiterated by Marco Schiavon, managing director of Caffè Borbone, who speaks of success “the result of a deep-rooted tradition combined with a strong drive for innovation.” In six years of relentless investment and with the goal of increasing production capacity (this is about 70 million euros), the company has tripled production and turnover and operates with the warehouse inaugurated in August, which is now fully operational.

“Caffè Borbone has always focused on product quality that is closely linked to respect for the Neapolitan coffee tradition and the ability to intercept the needs of an ever-changing market,” says Schiavon. “We also place a great deal of attention on the research and development phase, which is essential to innovate and to make the public a top-quality coffee that consumers, from Campania, Italy and abroad, like.

Tradition also goes hand in hand with innovation and all the steps that need to be taken to preserve product quality. “The use of advanced technologies and efficient logistics allow us to maintain high quality standards and respond quickly to national and international demand,” he argues. So the recipe is innovation, taking full advantage of the potential of a productive territory rich in both natural and human resources, already recognized and appreciated worldwide, people who face future challenges with grit.”

A workforce of 300 employees, and a network of partners and suppliers throughout the region characterize the company, which has seen turnover grow over the years, “exceeding 300 million euros in the last one.”

“Caffè Borbone buys from nearly 900 suppliers around the world, predominantly Italian and about a third of whom are from Campania,” the manager adds. “All this amounts to an induced revenue in Italy of 160 million, of which 60 million is in Campania.

There is also an aspect that is far from negligible and concerns sustainability. “We have adopted targeted strategies to reduce the environmental impact along the entire production chain, from the procurement of raw materials to logistics and packaging,” the manager further argues. “A concrete example is our commitment to the development of compostable pods and capsules and increasingly eco-friendly packaging solutions. One of our most significant projects is the compostable pod: an innovative solution that responds to the growing need to reduce the environmental impact of coffee consumption.”

And then the packaging that contains it “designed to be recyclable in paper collection, in line with our goal of minimizing the use of plastics.” Also in the path are processes to reduce CO₂ emissions, optimization of water resources.

And then markets that start from Italy but look to international scenarios. “Italy remains the core of our activities,” he continues. “However, our growth strategy is increasingly focusing on international markets, with a growing presence in Europe and the United States, where Italian-style espresso coffee is gaining more and more ground. The goal is to consolidate our positioning and make the quality of Neapolitan coffee known around the world. Also because we are first in market share in the pods sector, with the conception of the compostable pod and therefore disposable in the wet waste.”
