Furnishing an apartment calls for a balance of scale, character, functionality, and proportion – a task we took seriously when recently styling the East Brunswick Village (EBV) display suite.
For this project, we set about creating distinct living and dining areas to accompany the existing kitchen.
With the luxury of a generous floor plan and high ceilings, we decided to anchor the space with the stunning 5 Seat LAF Terminal Sofa by ELLISON STUDIOS in Malibu Willow. Sculptural and refined, this 1970-inspired sofa introduces shape, colour and comfort, layered with cushions by L&M Home.
The shape of the sofa works perfectly in this lofty space, appearing to seemingly ‘hug’ the United Strangers Citizen Coffee Table from Trit House, while the Daydreamer Lounge Chair by Fenton & Fenton provides a quieter spot to curl up with a book.
In the dining area, we saved on space by introducing a circular Coco Flip Sequence Round Dining Table from Cult. This table can still comfortably seat four, and we chose mismatched Thonet timber chairs with chrome chairs by McMullin and Design by Them for visual interest.
Storage is arguably the hero of this apartment, working to subtly define zones in the absence of internal walls, and creating space to display treasures and electronics. Styling the IKEA LÅDMAKARE and a custom entertaining unit with books, records, ceramics, vases and potted plants instantly brought this apartment to life.
Patterned Loom rugs and soft lighting again add character, while working to set the mood and feel of each zone. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different pendant shapes and heights, as we’ve done with the Tamarind Round Handcrafted Linen Shades by Beacon Lighting, and Akari 33N from In Good Company.
The all important finishing touch is the artwork by MARS Gallery. We chose a variety of artworks in different scales and mediums, including pieces by Atong Atem, Brenton Drechsler, Chantel de Latour, Prudence Wilkinson, and Bobby Bowers, which collectively create talking points throughout the apartment.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by The Design Files Apartment Project at EBV. We hope you left feeling more inspired and confident to embrace stylish, small-footprint living in Australia!
