teenage engineering’s computer–2 is the world’s cheapest computer case at $0

teenage engineering’s computer case you can’t buy ’cause it’s free

Stockholm-based Teenage Engineering unveils computer–2, a minimalist mini-ITX case that pushes the limits of design affordability all the way down to zero. Released on August 13, 2025, the new chassis is part of the brand’s year-long ’25 the flipped out year’ campaign. Designed from a single sheet of semi-transparent PP plastic, the computer case folds and snaps into place without screws, tools, or stress – in short, it’s a case you can’t buy, because it costs nothing at all!

Teenage Engineering set a goal to design the cheapest computer case in the world, introducing computer–2

how computer–2 has been engineered all the way down to $0

Founded in 2005 in Stockholm by Jesper Kouthoofd, David Eriksson, Jens Rudberg, and later joined by David Möllerstedt, Teenage Engineering built its reputation on design-savvy consumer electronics. The company first captured attention with the OP-1 synthesizer in 2010, followed by cult-favorite pocket operators, and the OD-11 speaker inspired by Stig Carlsson’s 1970s design. Today, the Swedish collective has become a studio essential for artists and producers worldwide, while maintaining its roots in playful, boundary-pushing engineering.

The computer–2 case is engineered with radical simplicity in mind. Cut from a single sheet of polypropylene, it uses ‘living hinges’ and snap hooks instead of metal screws or complex fasteners. To assemble, users simply fold along the seams and snap the form into place. Installing the motherboard is just as easy: push, click, done. The result is a tool-free, stress-free build process that feels more like origami than hardware assembly.

Despite its stripped-back design, computer–2 doesn’t skimp on capability given that the case supports a mini-ITX motherboard, SFX power supply, and a dual-slot GPU up to 180mm, neatly packed into a portable, small form factor. With its lightweight semi-transparent plastic, it’s minimalist, easy to carry, and service-friendly, catering both to first-time builders and seasoned PC enthusiasts tired of overly complicated enclosures.
