The Car With Glowing Tires: Jim Street’s Golden Sahara II

The Golden Sahara II is a dazzling custom car born from a wrecked 1953 Lincoln Capri and reimagined by George Barris with funding from Jim Street.

With its bubble canopy, gold accents, and pearlescent fish-scale paint, it looked straight out of a sci-fi dream. Packed with futuristic tech—remote controls, automatic braking, and even a cocktail bar—it also featured glowing Neothane tires from Goodyear. After decades in hiding, it’s been beautifully restored and now shines as a symbol of Jet Age innovation and wild automotive imagination.
