The Kershaw Outcome Knife’s Rainbow Finish Might Be the Most Mesmerizing in EDC History

To hell with the Infinity Gauntlet, give me the Bifrost-inspired knife instead! Meet the Kershaw Outcome – a knife that’s fairly normal looking if you just go by its silhouette. Look at it in real life, however, and it feels like the EDC you’d find at the end of a rainbow. With its impeccably beautiful spectral colorway, the Kershaw Outcome Rainbow comes with a gorgeous iridescent PVD finish that makes it look nothing like any knife you’ve seen before – and that’s kind of a big deal.

Most knives (or at least the ones I find myself writing about) lean into that stealthy/utilitarian aesthetic. They’re either silver colored or they go for a black PVD coating. The blades are fairly boring, while most knives that deign to be different experiment with G10 fiber, carbon fiber, or wooden handles to make their knives stand out. Nice, yes. But also predictable. The Outcome, however, genuinely looks like it was carved from the horn of a unicorn. With its dazzling multicolored finish, the Kershaw Outcome literally changes colors depending on how you hold it, sort of like the back of a CD. It’s so captivating that the knife is on the verge of selling out on Amazon.

Before I fawn further over the knife’s finish, let’s get the technicalities out of the way. You’ve got a fairly classic design in the form of a folding knife featuring a drop-point blade, a thumb flip, a frame lock, and a pocket clip. The blade, made from 8Cr13MoV, measures 2.8″ long, and with that drop-point edge, is perfect for everyday tasks from cutting and slicing to hardcore whittling, scoring, scraping, and slashing. The stainless steel blade is slightly cool to the touch, but feels nice and ergonomic in your grip. The entire thing weighs 3.4 ounces or 96 grams, making it nifty, lightweight piece of EDC.

Deploying the blade is as simple as flicking the thumb-trigger on the blade. It locks confidently, thanks to the frame lock, and jimping on the underside of the handle makes your grip extra secure. There’s no jimping on the top of the blade, though. When you’re done, disengage the frame lock and the blade swivels back into its enclosure, while the pocket clip lets you carry your knife around comfortably.

That being said, the Kershaw Outcome Rainbow isn’t meant for carrying, it’s meant for showing off. All day, every day. That spectacular PVD finish gives the knife a uniquely attention-catching aesthetic that I don’t think any other EDC can match – not even the best kind of Damascus steel (there, I said it). Your eyes gravitate towards colors, whether it’s a rainbow in the sky, gasoline shimmering on a pool of water in a puddle, the backside of a CD, or a shimmering rainbow-colored beetle crawling across your porch. The Kershaw Outcome Rainbow taps into that sense of childlike wonder, while still being a fantastic knife for all your regular day EDC needs, be it indoors opening Amazon parcels, or outdoors defending yourself and 99 of your brothers against a gorilla.
