The Superb Pencil Portraits of Kei Meguro Look Like Black-and-White Photographs

Japanese artist Kei Meguro has gained international acclaim for her hyper-detailed pencil and graphite portraits that often resemble black-and-white photographs.

After studying graphic design in New York and working in advertising, she became an independent artist in 2012 and published her first portrait book, *Faces*, in 2016. Her signature “babe work” series features surreal portraits of women, marked by expressive eyes and intricate textures, and has led to collaborations with major brands like Adobe and HBO. Drawing from personal experiences, nature, and emotion, Kei’s work is both intuitive and intentional, revealing deeply personal stories through her art.
