This Hardware Wallet is like a Flipper Zero for Crypto Nerds

Nobody who believes in ‘tradition’ buys crypto. It’s for the outliars, for the people who want to upend the global order, and more importantly, for people who seek thrill in the idea of flouting convention. Crypto isn’t for the boring at heart, but for some reason, every crypto hardware wallet out there looks like it was made for some 60-plus suit on Wall Street. I’m assuming Nikita and Anna felt the same way too, prompting the design of DEGN, a wallet made not just for holding your crypto, but for supporting the entire crypto lifestyle.

The DEGN truly feels like a Flipper Zero but for crypto-folks. It comes with a tiny, chunky, funky design that taps into this cyberpunk aesthetic that rejects the boring nature of most crypto wallets. It has screens, buttons, a scroll wheel, biometrics, and does more than just cold-store your alt-cash. You can also track, trade, mine, and occasionally even play games on the DEGN. The DEGN makes holding crypto cool by building around the needs and wants of the crypto demographic. After all, hardware wallets look like they were built for server rooms, not for the pockets of the new generation of tech-upstarts.

Designers: Nikita Savenkov & Anna Makowska

There’s something very disruptive about the DEGN’s design. It has this Teenage-Engineering-meets-Flipper-Zero aesthetic that prioritizes fun along with function. The device looks like a white version of the Rabbit R1, with a screen on front, two buttons, a scroll wheel, but also packs an extra ticker-style display on the left-hand edge (opposite the scroll wheel). Think of these displays as the information and command centers of your crypto empire. You can track the value of coins, trigger sales or buy orders, and constantly be on top of your game even when you don’t have your laptop handy.

The DEGN handles all aspects of your crypto routine. It stores your coins in a cold wallet, lets you check your balance, lets you trade, but also lets you mine. A node feature lets you plug into the blockchain network, working as a crucial part of the proof-of-stake operation. Depending on the coin you choose, this also allows you to earn a small fraction of the cryptocurrency as a reward for your role in the validation process.

A knob and two front-facing buttons allow you to rapidly navigate the DEGN’s interface. In fact, both the knob as well as the buttons have underlying tech. The knob’s surface also functions as a biometric lock for your wallet, while displays underneath the buttons morph depending on the feature/tool you open. In the trading space, you can buy or sell coins, as well as take long or short positions.

The device’s aesthetic perfectly mirrors the attitude of its industry – it disrupts, challenges notions, and brings an aspect of ‘casual fun’ to finance, something that everyone will agree is a descriptor that fits the crypto world well, especially when compared to more ‘boring’ financial routes like the gold/bond market, or dabbling with bank deposits.
