Pickup camping enthusiasts continue to receive something new and exciting from Unplug Outdoor Company, and it’s the new low-profile Trailster Truck Camper, which has been making rounds on the internet lately. The Trailster is just another aluminum pickup topper until you lift the cap, and an integrated fold-out tent is revealed. This guy, hiding inside, is a nice space-saving solution when folded, and also a way to make more room inside when open.
The hidden secret within the fixed shell makes the Trailster a lightweight camping solution with a low profile when closed, as compared to a pop-up camper or a traditional pickup topper. This truck bed camper is compatible with pickups with beds ranging between 5-foot through 8-foot. This means it is compatible with most mid- and full-size truck campers, the size of which also defines the amount of sleeping space within the Trailster.

According to the information available, if you compare the interior sleeping space to that offered by a traditional fixed and cab height camper, the Trailster with its integrated combination is definitely more spacious and offers more dedicated sleeping accommodation, which can be created instantly at the camp by pulling the cap up and stretching the tent out. No need to remove cargo or make any adjustments before getting in, the tent is all fashioned out in seconds and with the provided memory foam mattress, ready to let you sleep. Coming to its prowess in closed form, the Trailster fits well within the bed height like any other adventure cap for the pickup. But unlike the stationary options in the past, the Trailster isn’t a dead duck, instead it features a fold-out tent integrated that is ready in seconds to let in the adventurer. Despite its additional benefit, the Unplug truck topper offers lockable security and full weather protection like its counterparts, and if desired, can be outfitted with rear and front windows for better visibility.
The Trailster, which comes with its own tail light, can be accessed using a 7.5-foot telescopic ladder when it’s pitched as a tent. To deploy the tent, the strut-assisted roof folds sideways, extending the floor out. This momentum pulls the tent along and creates a nice, secure camping solution on the truck bed. The tent is made from 280-g polyester ripstop blackout canvas and is highly waterproof, so you can feel safe and protected inside, irrespective of the weather outside.
To ensure the Trailster is an all-weather option (if you may) Unplug has outfitted the tent with an AC and heating solution for insulation, which is bolstered by an anti-condensation mat underneath the mattress (the company plans to introduce an inflatable mattress for increasing sleeping space in bigger truck beds). Trailster is priced between $5,500 and $6,500, depending on the size, and has a pair of T-track roof rails and L tracks for mounting accessories and gear.
